Filling Vacant Seat - Group 3 and 4, November 20, 2024
The Seminole Soil & Water Conservation District is looking for people to run for the vacant seat left by Megan Betche's resignation from her Group 3 position, and the opening for the Group 4 position. Based on F.S. 582.19(5), "After the issuance of a certificate of organization of a soil and water conservation district by the Department of State, or in the event of a vacancy resulting from death, resignation, removal, or otherwise, each vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the remaining supervisors of the district until the next regular election". This means that the SSWCD will appoint someone to fill these vacancies and can come from anywhere in Seminole County. Please note the expectations of Board Members in the Bylaws:
- Attendence at a minumum of 75% of the twice monthly meetings
- Raising or contributing $300 each year to the Board
- Attendence at a minimum of 2 meetings of an agricultural orgainization
- Attendence at a minimum of at least 2 meetings of an elected body or civic organization
- Attendence at an Association of Florida Conservation Districts (AFCD) meeting
For the Group 3 position, the Board is looking of a candidate with specialized knowledge of water.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of rural and urban agricultural soil and water conservation subjects and issues, have knowledge of water quality and quantity issues in both rural and urban areas of Seminole County, as well as be familiar with the functions of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, St. John’s Water Management District, the FDACS Office of Ag Water Quality, and local governments including Seminole County and the seven cities. In addition, s/he should be able to articulate the attributes of parcels of land that are being considered for placement into conservation.
For the Group 4 position, the Board is looking for a candidate with a specialized knowledge of agriculture.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of, agriculture in Seminole County, be an active cattleman, be a participant in an agricultural leadership organization, have extensive knowledge of the concerns of the agricultural community, and be active in more than one statewide or national organizations.
The appointment will be held at the upcoming Seminole Soil & Water Conservation District meeting held November 20, 2024, at 6:30 PM located at the UF IFAS Seminole County Office located at 250 County Home Road, Sanford, FL 32773
